Since September 2008, Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire has adopted the 'Incredible Years' Programme at our school. This behaviour management programme seeks to promote positive behaviours amongst all members of our school community. Strategies and incentives are used in classrooms throughout the school which seek to promote social and emotional competencies in children. The programme was devised by Carolyn Webster Stratton in the United States and here in Clare it has been delivered in Cloughleigh in Ennis and here at Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire Newmarket on Fergus. All of the staff have received training on the programme, facilitated by Richard Egan and Suarla Fitzsimmons from the National Educational Psychological Services and at present the first parent group are receiving training, facilitated by Jacinta Reaver and Jenny Shaw from Clare Care. Research has shown that in communities where this programme is implemented that there is a significant decrease in anti-social behaviours in adults and an increase in school completion and workplace satisfaction. What better reasons could there be to have such a programme at our school. For further information regarding 'Incredible years' log on to www.incredibleyears.com
