Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire is delighted to be part of a project that is examining the quality and performance of school-Regional Education Centre partnerships with an emphasis on Early School Leaving. The working group includes collaborators from five European countries, namely, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, Norway and Ireland.
The RECIPE project (Regional Education Centres in Pedagogical Europe), promotes collaboration with other European partners to develop and disseminate best practice and support for teachers in all European countries.
We here in Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire are proud to be part of the Irish delegation which includes, Scoil Chríost Rí Ennis, Clare Education Centre and Mary Immaculate College. As part of the RECIPE project board we the Irish delegation were tasked with identifying some case studies that would be suitable in the prevention/reduction of Early School Leaving(ESL). The case studies that were finally agreed upon were Accelerated Reader, the use LEGO WeDo education software and Mata sa Rang.
Meetings of the board have been held in each of the partner countries.
Thessaloniki, Greece
The initial group meeting was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. From an Irish point of view it was attended by Pat Hanrahan (Clare Educatuon Centre) and Rory McGann (Mary Immaculate College, Limerick).
Albertslund, Denmark
The second meeting of the group took place in Albertslund, Denmark. This meeting was attended by Pat Hanrahan (Clare Educatuon Centre) and Rory McGann (Mary Immaculate College, Limerick), Eamon Curley (Scoil na MAighdine Mhuire) and John Griffin (Scoil Chríost Rí). The individual case studies were discussed more in depth at this meeting working towards the publication of a Course Handbook.
Sesimbra, Portugal
The third meeting of the group took place in Portugal. Again the case studies and the Course Handbook were discussed in depth. The 1st in-service training course was decided upon with Sesimbra being the location decided upon.
Ennis, Ireland
We were delighted to welcome the other four partners to Ennis in May of 2015. This was a very important meeting as it was the last meeting prior to the 1st in-service training course. Everything was finalised at this point for the course.
We also welcomed the delegation to Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire and had a great morning showing them around and introducing them to the ancient art of hurling!
1st In-Service Training Course, Sesimbra, Portugal
The culmination of the previous four meetings was the 1st In-Service Training Course which took place in Sesimbra, Portugal at the beginning of October 2016. Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire were delighted to be represented at this training course. Two members of our staff made presentations to 65 delegates from many European countries.

The cost of attending the course was fully funded through ERASMUS+ European Project and our national agency Léargas.
Karmoy, Norway
The fifth and final meeting recently took place in Norway. This meeting was attended by Pat Hanrahan (Clare Educatuon Centre), Eamon Curley (Scoil na MAighdine Mhuire) and Theresa McGann (Scoil Chríost Rí). The main purpose of this meeting was to finalise the 2nd In-Service Training course and 2 day Conference taking place in Thessaloniki next October.
Job-Shadowing
Through the RECIPE project funding we had 4 Portuguese teachers in our school job-shadowing. They had a great experience in our school watching the different classes doing Irish, Literacy Lift off, Maths, Accelerated Reader, Hurling, a guided historical tour of Dromoland to name but a few. They also spent a morning in the pre-school.
